One breed, three official sizes, and the size you pick decides your flat's rules, your grooming bill and your daily walk. Here is the full picture in cm and kg, plus the honest answer on teacup and moyen labels.

What are the three Poodle sizes?
Toy, Miniature and Standard. A Toy stands 24 to 28cm and weighs 2 to 4kg; a Miniature is 28 to 35cm and 5 to 7kg; a Standard is a large dog from 38cm up, often 20 to 30kg. Toy and Miniature are HDB-approved; the Standard is not. We place Toy Poodles.
The three sizes in cm and kg
The Poodle is one breed recognised in exactly three official sizes: Toy, Miniature and Standard, measured by height at the shoulder. Most guides you will find quote inches and pounds; Singapore vets, groomers and licensing forms all work in centimetres and kilograms, so that is what we use here.
The three-size system is the one used by the major kennel clubs, including the Poodle Club of America's size definitions. Whatever the size, it is the same dog underneath: the same curly, low-shedding coat that grows continuously, the same top-tier intelligence, and the same alert-barking instinct.

Toy Poodle: the lap-sized one
The Toy Poodle is the smallest official size at 24 to 28cm and 2 to 4kg, and it is the size we specialise in. Across the 100+ Toy Poodles we have placed with Singapore families, most settle at 2 to 3kg as adults: a true lap-sized dog for life, not just as a puppy.
It is the natural fit for how Singapore actually lives. A Toy is HDB-approved, carries easily around the island, and still brings the full Poodle brain, so it needs training and play, not just a sofa. Our placements come in warm apricot (the most common), brown and red.

Miniature Poodle: the middle size
The Miniature Poodle sits between the two at 28 to 35cm and 5 to 7kg. It offers the same brains with a little more engine: more dog on the walk, more presence in the house, and slightly more coat to maintain.
It is HDB-approved, and a fair choice for a more active household with room to spare. We will say it plainly: we do not stock Miniatures. If you are torn between the two small sizes, our Toy vs Miniature guide puts them side by side honestly.

Standard Poodle: the big athlete
The Standard Poodle is a genuinely large dog: 38cm is the floor, and 45 to 60cm at 20 to 30kg is common. It is the original working size, bred as a water retriever, and it needs real space and a seriously active owner.
Two things Singapore buyers should know before falling for one. The Standard Poodle is not HDB-approved, full stop, and it is rarely stocked by local shops. If you live landed or in a large condo and run or hike weekly, it can be a wonderful dog; it will just not come from us.

Is there a fourth size? Moyen, Klein and the FCI
You may have seen "four sizes of Poodles" online, and there is a real reason for the confusion. The European FCI registry recognises a fourth class, the Medium or Moyen (Klein in German), standing roughly 35 to 45cm, between the Miniature and the Standard.
In practice it changes nothing for a Singapore buyer. The American and British kennel clubs, and the local market, work with three sizes; a moyen is not a separate breed, just a show-ring classification, and you will not find moyen stock in Singapore shops. If a listing leans on the label, ask for the dog's expected adult height and weight instead.

Teacup and micro: labels, not sizes
"Teacup" and "micro" are marketing labels, not Poodle sizes. No kennel club recognises anything smaller than the Toy, and honestly, we treat the label as a red flag rather than a premium: deliberately breeding below the healthy Toy range raises the risk of fragile bones, low blood sugar and dental problems.
We place Toy Poodles at their natural 2 to 4kg and never trade on the teacup word. Before you pay extra for tiny, read what the teacup label really means.
Why we avoid the teacup label

- Usually an undersized Toy, marketed up
- Undersizing carries real health risks
- Often priced at a premium for less dog
- A healthy Toy is already lap-sized
Which size is calmest? What size actually changes
None of them is calm by default, whatever the breed guides say. Calmness in a Poodle comes from training and enough mental stimulation, not from centimetres; a bored Poodle gets inventive at 3kg or at 30kg. What we usually tell buyers is that the question is not "which size is calmest" but "can you give this dog a job?": daily training games, sniffy walks, and a grooming routine it learns to enjoy.
What size genuinely changes is logistics. Space needed, minutes of exercise, food portions, and the grooming bill all scale with the dog; the brain, the curly coat and the alert bark come standard at every size.

HDB rules by size
HDB approval is decided by size, and this is where most Poodle plans in Singapore succeed or fail. The Toy and Miniature Poodle are both on HDB's named approved-breeds list (item 42); the Standard Poodle is not approved for HDB flats at all. The rule set also allows one approved dog per flat, and every dog must hold an AVS licence.

Size and daily life in Singapore
Singapore's climate treats the three sizes differently. Midday heat rules out 11am to 4pm walks for every dog, but a Toy's shorter, play-heavy exercise needs are far easier to schedule around sunrise and evening than a Standard's long daily mileage.
Humidity is the other constant: it mats curly coats at the friction zones, so a brushing habit between salon visits is part of Poodle ownership at any size. Budget grooming every 4 to 6 weeks at roughly $70 to $120 a session; a bigger dog sits at the top of that range simply because there is more coat.

Growth: when is a Toy Poodle full grown?
A Toy Poodle reaches most of its adult height by 6 to 8 months and fills out to its final weight by about 12 months. In our placements the typical adult lands at 2 to 3kg, with the occasional bigger boy touching 4kg; puppies go home with us at around week 9.
