How to choose the right Poodle size
One breed, three sizes, and the choice shapes everything from your walks to whether you meet HDB rules. Here is a simple way to decide which Poodle size is best for your home.

Which Poodle size should I choose?
For most Singapore homes, especially HDB flats, the Toy is the natural choice: small, HDB-approved and easy to keep. A Miniature suits a slightly more active or family household with more space. The Standard is a big, energetic dog for landed or condo living, and it is not HDB-approved. We place Toy Poodles.
Toy, Miniature or Standard: the quick version
The Poodle is one breed in three sizes. A Toy stands 24 to 28cm and weighs 2 to 4kg, a Miniature 28 to 35cm and 5 to 7kg, and a Standard tops 38cm at roughly 20 to 30kg. Only size and energy change between them.

Start with your home and the HDB rules
Start with the rules, because they narrow the choice fast. If you live in an HDB flat, only the Toy and Miniature Poodle are approved. The Standard Poodle is not HDB-approved, so a flat rules it out from the start.
Between the two approved sizes, the Toy stays reliably small while a Miniature can grow toward the size ceiling, so the Toy is the safer flat choice. Then match the size to your lifestyle and family
After the rules, match the size to how you actually live. A Toy is a portable lap dog that needs modest daily exercise. A Miniature is sturdier and has more stamina, which suits an active household or one with young children. A Standard needs real space and a proper daily workout.

The question I ask before recommending any Poodle is not who is home all day, but whether you can give the dog a job. All three sizes are clever and want training and enrichment, not just a spot on the sofa.
Same dog, three sizes: what does not change
Size is really the only thing you are choosing. Every Poodle, Toy to Standard, shares the same top-tier intelligence, the same athletic streak, and the same tight, curly, low-shedding coat that needs disciplined grooming. Temperament and coat care do not shrink with the dog.
A Poodle is more independent and biddable than the softer companion crosses, and an alert barker that notices everything. It is also smart enough to get bored and inventive if under-stimulated, whichever size you pick. Plan for a brushing and salon routine plus daily mental work at every size.
Watch out for the word teacup
If you see the word teacup, pause. Teacup is a marketing label, not a real fourth Poodle size. The smallest genuine size is the Toy, and chasing a dog smaller than that often costs the puppy its health. It is a red flag, not a premium.
Before you fall for the smallest possible puppy, read what it really means. A healthy 2 to 3kg Toy is already a very small dog, and plenty small enough for a flat.
Getting the choice right
Because the choice is hard to undo, take your time over it. Line up the rules, your space, your family and your activity level, then pick the size that fits all four. For most Singapore homes that lands on the Toy, which is exactly the size we place.
